Public Space Redevelopment
From indigenous site to convict prison, reform school, then shipyard, Cockatoo Island has been the base for a variety of transient functions. The industrial precinct of Cockatoo Island primarily used for shipbuilding, has been disused since 1994, and is now deemed a public space. ‘Transient blur’ is a project which aims to reconnect the site for this public purpose. This design outlines a
new function for the many abandoned buildings onsite in developing the existing features of the island. These spaces will be re-purposed for a variety of public, recreation, commercial and residential purposes.
